Frequently Asked Questions

What types of shoes are most flattering for petite women?

Petite ladies, remember who you are and what you’re working with! The goal is to elongate your legs and avoid breaking up your vertical silhouette. Say yes to pointed-toe shoes because they elongate your legs beautifully! Low-vamp shoes (the ones that show a little toe cleavage) are a yes for you, too. Pumps and sandals with heels are also your friends. Nude-colored shoes are another great option, especially when wearing shorts, skirts, or dresses.

Be careful with shoes that introduce horizontal lines across your legs. Ankle straps can cut off your visual leg length when you need it most! If you can’t avoid an ankle strap, choose a skinny one or wear a nude-colored shoe. Platforms, bulky shoes, chunky heels, and wedges can also add too much visual heaviness. If you love wedges, try a thinner wedge instead. Gladiator and strappy sandals can be tricky, too, because all those horizontal lines work against the long, uninterrupted silhouette we’re trying to achieve.

Absolutely! Booties and ankle boots work well on petite women, but pay close attention to the shaft height. Look for ankle boots that hit right at or just below your ankle bone. This really helps elongate your frame! Higher shafts can start to visually cut off your legs and make them look shorter. For an even more flattering look, choose pointed-toe boots in a nude color or a color that matches your pants.

Knee-high boots are a gorgeous option and can look fantastic on us petite gals! But finding the right fit can be a challenge. The key is finding a shaft height that hits right under your knee. If you have shorter legs (like mine!), look for a shaft height around 14–15 inches. If your petite body type has longer legs, a shaft under 15.5 inches may be worth trying. Look very carefully at the boot description because shaft height can increase with shoe size.

Don’t forget about calf circumference! I have small calves, and even narrow-calf boots can sometimes be too large. If you have wider calves, measure to make sure the boots will be spacious enough.

Yes! Over-the-knee boots can visually elongate your legs and look great with a shorter dress or skirt. They’re a fun option for petite women who want a longer-looking silhouette. Just be cautious with slouchy boots, bulky or chunky styles, and midcalf boots. These can visually shorten your legs rather than elongate them. As with shoes, pointed toes and colors that match your pants are great choices for keeping that beautiful vertical line going.
